Anahata’s Limited Edition Brahmakamal infused Kumkumadi Tailam

We all are well aware about the legendary Kumkumadi Tailam made of Saffron along several other ingredients. This ancient and classic Ayurvedic skin elixir is the divine formulation by the Ashwini Kumars that is known for its luminescent properties. According to the Ashtanga Hridayam and Bhaisajya Ratnavalli, this oil has the capacity to reverse age and give its user a skin that’s flawless and blemish free.

While commonly the Kumkumadi is made using a collection of positively potent herbs and roots, there are several other variations of this serum that have been formulated using exotic ingredients. Extremely rare and hard to procure amongst such, is the golden Brahmakamal that blooms once a year in the lofty heights of the Himalayas. This flower is known as the nectar of the Gods and is said to have been created by Lord Brahma to help Lord Shiva place the head of an elephant on the body of Ganesha. It is known to have secreted Amruta or the life conserving elixir from its petals that has said to have saved Lord Ganesha.

The flower takes approximately three hours to bloom for a few hours, once a year. Sighting it is said to bring good luck and prosperity and consuming it in any form is claimed to help the user detoxify, cleanse, reduce inflammation, heal wounds and treat any kind of skin disease.

The Brahmakamal is found in the higher altitudes of the Western Himalayan ranges and holds an immensely sacred position amongst the locals in these regions. I was fortunate to have lived in these regions and it was at this time that I had the privilege of learning the traditional formulation of the Kumkumadi Tailam using the Brahmakamal.

3 types of Kashayam or Kawath is prepared using healing ingredients like, Kesara (saffron), red and white Chandanam, Laksha, Manjishta, Yastimadhu, Bilva, Daruharidra, Vetiver, Padmaka, Nilotpala and two varieties of banyans – Vata & Plaksha. The Brahmakamal is then infused into this kashayam using double boiling techniques. Sesame and coconut oil are then blended in using some Kamala Kesara, Dashamoola, the 10 ayurvedic roots that are made of Agnimantha, Shyonaka, Gambhari, Patala, Shalaprini, Prishnaparni, Gokshura, Brihati and  Kantankatri.

This mixture is then boiled on a low flame in a copper vessel for hours along with cardamom, Tulsi, Rose and Ajaksheera or goat’s milk and then mixed and blended with more exotic herbs like Manjishta, Madhuka, Laksha, Patranga and Yashtimadhu. Finally, some more pure saffron and 24 K Gold are added to the oil that renders its stupendous results.

The efficacy of this concoction has the capacity to cure any skin ailment as all the herbs chosen in the Kashayam are synergies that improve the rakta-pitta condition, reducing inflammation and pigmentation from the surface of the skin.

Just apply 4 to 5 drops of this beautiful serum on your face and neck every night before you sleep. You will be able to see a visible transformation on your skin within a few days. If you are one of those with extremely oily skin, it is recommended that you add a few drops of this oil in warm milk and ingest it at least three times a week. One can also use this oil inside their nose like a ‘nasya’ before pranayam every morning for amazing results.

Needless to say, this serum will work a lot better when you provide internal support, like practicing discipline in your diet, working out regularly and getting adequate sleep. So go try out this limited edition elixir and allow for your skin to glow like gold!
